Photos - Kolo Annual Christmas Party at Innsbrook Country Club

posted by dorothyp on Dec 11th, 2012 at 4:17 pm

The hard working ladies of the Serbian Sisters Circle let someone else do the cooking as they celebrated the Holiday Season Saturday afternoon. Poetry, Christmas stories, games, and songs were all part of the program. Mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and friends laughed until they had tears in their eyes when Olga Galich Velasquez lead the Kolo Chorus in "The Twelve Days of Christmas". "Kolo Men" Simo Glumac and Richard Vrtikapa were thanked for all their help during the past year, and first time inductee Paul Jancarich was presented with his own pair of rubber gloves, apron, and bottle of Palmolive dish soap. "Youngest" Kolo member Karavelka Petrovich (well into her 100's) was honored with a bouquet of fresh flowers by Alexis Orlich. Kolo President Beba Rudman also had a special gift for Donna Nicolich - her very own Chef's hat! Special thanks to Kathy Vrtikapa Friedlander and her daughter Susan, who traveled from Indianapolis to coordinate the party activities and games. Please join us next year and be sure to invite a friend!

Extraordinary Volunteers!

posted by dorothyp on Aug 9th, 2012 at 10:03 am

This year's Serb Fest volunteers dealt with especially challenging situations: temperatures in the mid-90's and a dangerous thunderstorm that blew through late Saturday afternoon. Children were safely gathered into the basement of the church building, while others gathered at the back corners of the solid new Pavilion. Within 45 minutes of the 70 mph thundertorm, tables and chairs were re-set, cevap grills were running, and smiling Serbian faces were back in business for the evening rush. We lost some tents and signs, but thankfully no one was hurt! It all turned out well, thanks to the spirit of our great volunteers, many of whom worked for weeks cleaning, planning, baking, and preparing for the annual festival. Special Thanks also to friends from other church parishes who helped grill cevaps and roast lambs. Hvala and Ziveli!

Videos - Camp Kickoff Luncheon and Style Show

posted by dorothyp on Apr 30th, 2011 at 2:44 pm

"Springtime In The Park" was the perfect theme for an afternoon of fashion, food, and fun at the recent event co-hosted by St. Sava and St. Elijah Kolo Sisters. What a pleasure it was to see so many young, beautiful Serbian children and teens model current fashion trends available for purchase at Piper Children's Boutique in Valparaiso and THE BUCKLE in Westfield Southlake Mall. Kolo Sisters attended from St. Louis, South Bend, Milwaukee, and many other midwest parishes. Enjoy the videos and be sure to post them on your facebook pages. Click on the video outside the arrow, and it will take you directly to YouTube, where you can get the video link, or click on the blog title, go to the top of the page and copy the new URL and post the entire story with the videos.

Many Thanks to all the volunteers who worked for weeks planning and organizing this successful event. The combined Kolo Sisters from St. Sava and St. Elijah donated and solicited Silent Auction Items and Door Prizes, sold tickets, served tables, made horsd'oeuvres and baked cookies. Simo Glumac, Arfin Grimsgard, Steve Baroevich, and Nick Knezich served cocktails. Kathy Friedlander made aprons in spring colors for all the servers. Sladjan prepared a fabulous Lenten dinner. Melanie Sever coordinated the style show, and Borka Grimsgard was the commentator. Thanks also to the numerous vendors who tempted us all with their merchandise and services.

Special Thanks to Nancy Van Santen, owner of Piper Children's Boutique in Valparaiso  and Vido Ivanovic, assistant manager of THE BUCKLE in the Mall for their patience and assistance throughout the planning and day of the show.

Kathy's Friends Truly Care

posted by dorothyp on Jul 14th, 2010 at 12:05 am

Kathy Baroevich's commitment to our church comes from her heart. She has been a life - long member, a Sunday School teacher, and our choir director for many years. She has manned the cevap grill at every Serb Fest and helped at countless fish fry's.  Regardless of the weather, she never misses church, stays for every Parastos, sings for every wedding and funeral Pomen Service. Her soprano voice is both beautiful and comforting. She has a rewarding career as an educator. Perhaps it's in her genes: every member of the Baroevich family has selflessly served our church. For all Kathy has done for us, it was time for us to show just how much we truly appreciate her. Saturday afternoon, many friends stopped by the south wing to show their support for her after she recently suffered a devastating fire that nearly destroyed her home and claimed the life of her dog. We wish her well as she rebuilds her home. Thank you to all the lovely ladies from Kolo for hosting and  decorating, and to other organizations for their support of this event, and to everyone who baked "goodies" for the dessert table. Paul Jancarich composed and sang a song in her honor. Mismo Tamburitza Orchestra played for everyone's enjoyment. Thanks, guys!

CALLING ALL KIDS: JOIN US SATURDAY NIGHT!

Written by Gorana Bilbija, Sunday School Student:

Hey St. Sava Students let's have some fun!!!

As you all know we will be going to the County Line Orchard on October 18th from 5:00 to 8:30. It is located on 200 County Line Road in Hobart, IN. You should arrive early so that you and your family can enjoy the various activities that they have to offer. Isn't that awesome! If you arrive early you will be able to go apple & pumpkin picking. They also have a country store there where you can get souvenirs. Wow!!! You should coordinate your time so that you will be able to catch the hayride back to the campsite. Unless, you would rather walk. So don't forget at 5:00 all of us will join together at the fire pit for some dinner, games, hayrides, and the corn maze. The dinner is scheduled to be at 6:00 so don't be late.

Families will have to supply drinks, side dishes, desserts, & the supplies for s'mores. We will provide the chicken, so don't worry about that. If you would like to go through the corn maze it will be $5 per person. But we will pay the $5 for the children. If you would like to you can bring chairs, flashlights, & bug spray.

When you arrive make sure you park by the corn maze off of Cleveland. And we ask you to do 1 more thing for us. Please let Kim Mileusnic know if you are coming or not, so that we know how many tickets and how much food we should get.

I hope I see you all there on October 18th.
