The Lake County, Indiana personal injury law & bankruptcy firm, Schlyer & Associates, is advising of a recall issued by Nissan of nearly 200,000 Infiniti QX4 and Pathfinder vehicles.  Nissan warns corrosion could interfere with steering.

The recall is limited to northern states that use road salt in the winter months, according to Nissan.

Apparently, overtime users could hear  a grinding noise, have difficulty steering and the corrosion could cause the steering column to break, according to government regulators.

The recall involves 1996-2004 Pathfinders and model year 1997-2003 Infiniti QX4 vehicles sold or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Wisconsin.

According to the recall, Nissan said it would inspect and repair the vehicles, as necessary, free of charge.

According to news reports, automobile manufacturer  Daimler AG is recalling 136,750 Mercedes-Benz vehicles the Merrillville, Indiana law firm of Schlyer & Associates has learned.

The New York Times is reporting Alabama and federal health officials are investigating the deaths of nine patients at Alabama hospitals.  According to the New York Times, those individuals were all given an intravenous nutritional supplement that investigators have found was contaminated by bacteria.  the Northwest Indiana law firm of Schlyer & Associates handles product liability, wrongful death and medical malpractice cases.

According to the recall, about 3,700 riding lawn mowers with the optional deluxe seat have an operator presence switch built into the seat that may activate the mower when the operator vacates the seat, posing an injury hazard from the blade to the operator and anyone in the vicinity of the mower.

The recalled riding lawn mowers were sold by various Toro dealers in the U.S. and Canada from September 2005 through January 2011 for prices ranging from $13,000 to 17,000 according to the recall notice.

If your machine has the optional deluxe seat installed, which is light gray with adjustment knob on the front, the recall notice recommends that you contact Toro to have modification instructions sent to you. According to Volkswagen, a recall was issued affecting about 71,000 2011 Jettas  in order to reconfigure wiring related to its alarm system and horn.

According to a report posted by the Wall Street Journal, Johnson & Johnson has issued a recall pulling about 360,000 products sold in the U.S. used to drainsurgical wounds.

The report states, J&J’s Ethicon unit, which makes the Blake Silicone Drains, J-VAC reservoirs decided to recall the devices after receiving complaints the sterile packaging could be compromised.

According to a letter sent to customers by Ethicon, consumers should stop using the recalled products and call 866-664-1401 for further assistance.

The Lake and Porter County, Indiana law firm, Schlyer & Associates warns Seltzer's Beef Labanon Bologna is recalled.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service recall notice, 23,000 pounds of Lebanon bologna products that may be contaminated with a type of E. coli.

The type of E. coli involved is known as O157:H7.  According to the Department of Agriculture, it is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.

The bologna subject to the recall were produced in December 2010 and were sent to distribution centers in Calif., Colo., Md., N.Y. and Pa. for further distribution to retail stores.

The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service states consumers with questions regarding the recall should contact the company at 1-800-282-6336.

The recall notice warns missing safety pegs can create a situation where the crib's drop-side rail disengages from the track. This can create a hazardous space in which an infant can become entrapped and suffocate.

Automobile manufacturer Hyundai issued a recall affecting about 285,000 Elantra vehicles according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to the recall notice, the Elantras will be recalled in two separate actions.

The first recall covers the 2007-2008 model years and affects about 96,000 cars.  The drivers-side air bag may deploy with full force.

The second Hyundai recall pertains to model years 2007 through 2009 and affects about 189,000 Elantras.  According to Hyundai, a liquid spilled in the front-console cup holder could leak through and cause an electrical problem. The condition might trigger the deployment of the passenger air bag, even if the occupant weighs so little that the bag should not inflate.
