Subaru said the vehicles were sold in 20 "salt belt" states, mainly in the Northeast and Midwest, and most were built at its U.S. assembly plant in Lafayette, Indiana.

An official recall notice released Tuesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that "salt water could splash on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector, resulting in excessive corrosion of the brake lines."

NHTSA said corrosion could cause brake fluid leakage, which could result in longer vehicle stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash.

Subaru on Tuesday said "no reports, accidents, injuries or incidents of failure have occurred." It said the problem was discovered by its Japanese parent during an internal testing program.

Subaru in its NHTSA recall filing said vehicle brake lines could be perforated after exposure to salt over seven or more winter seasons.

Owners can take their cars to Subaru dealers for a free inspection. Dealers will rustproof the affected area with anti-corrosion wax and, if necessary, replace the brake lines.

Honda issued this recall to repair a software problem that could damage the automatic transmission.

The recall includes 1.5 million vehicles in the United States.  For example, globally, the recall affects four-cylinder Accord sedans for the model years 2005 to 2010.

His Honda recall also includes the CR-V crossover for the model years 2007 to 2010 as well as the small SUV Element from 2005 to 2008.

If the software is not updated, the automatic transmission in these vehicles could be damaged if the driver quickly shifts between gears. That might cause the engine to stall or make it difficult to put the car into park.  Therefore, the automatic transmission in these vehicles could be damaged if the driver quickly shifted between gears. Honda said the problems might arise if the transmission were quickly shifted between the reverse, neutral and drive positions. A driver might do this in an attempt to dislodge a vehicle in mud or snow.

According to the news release, Honda will begin informing U.S. consumers at the end of August and noted the software update will take about a half-hour, but the vehicle may need to remain at the dealership for a longer period of time.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission  has issued a recall of over 1 Million toy keys with remote imported by Battat Inc., of Plattsburgh, New York, the personal injury law firm of Schlyer & Associates, the Aggressive Trial Lawyers, is warning.

The Aggressive Trial Lawyers, Schlyer & Associates is warning of a recall issued by Ford of 1.1 million pick-up trucks due to a possible problem with the gas tanks, according to a release from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

According to the press release, Ford is recalling certain Ford F-150, F-250 and Lincoln Blackwood pickup trucks because prolonged exposure to road de-icing chemicals (road salt in the winter) may corrode the straps holding the fuel tanks in place in the vehicles.

Ford believes, if the straps break the vehicle’s fuel lines may separate from the tank, potentially causing the tank to contact the ground, which may result in a fuel leak and a fire hazard.

Ford will notify owners of the issue and ask them to take their vehicles to their local Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their fuel tank straps replaced, or replaced with fuel straps with increased corrosion protection, according to the release.

Schlyer & Associates, Aggressive Trial Lawyers, a personal injury law firm in Merrillville, Northwest Indiana is warning of a recall issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission of 77,000 Electric Baseboard and Fan Heater Thermostats manufactured by Honeywell International Inc., of Morris Township, New Jersey.

According to the recall notice, the thermostats can overheat, causing them to melt and smoke. This poses a burn hazard to the consumer.  The recalled thermostats are rectangular, white, programmable thermostats used to control electric baseboard and fan heaters. “Honeywell” or “Cadet” is printed on the front of the thermostats that come in various sizes. The model number and four-digit date code are printed on a label inside the front cover of the thermostat.   See the recall notice for a listing of all of the recalled model numbers.

The recalled thermostats were sold at various home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowes, as well as HVAC and electrical stores, and contractors from January 2000 to December 2007 for between $80 and $300.

If you have one of the recalled thermostats, you should immediately stop using the recalled thermostats by setting the thermostats to 45 degrees or turning them off. Only models with a “B” in the model number have an off switch. Consumers should contact Honeywell at (888) 235-7363 for a free replacement installed by Honeywell.

According to the recall notice, the screws on the safety latches and outlet covers can loosen and/or break. When this happens, young children can gain access to electrical outlets and other potentially hazardous items.  Apparently, the recall pertains to Prime-Line child safety drawer and cabinet latches and outlet covers with rotating receptacle covers.

The recalled latches were sold at Ace Hardware, Bostwic-Braun, Cal-Do-It Centers, Do-It-Best, Friedman Brothers, Menards, Orgill, The Andersons Inc. and True Value stores nationwide between October 2010 and June 2011 for between $2.50 and $2.70. The recalled outlet covers were sold at Ace Hardware, Cimarron Lumber & Supply, Do-It-Best, Friedman Brothers, Handy Hardware, Menards and W.E. Aubuchon stores nationwide between October 2009 and June 2011 for about $3.50.

Inflatable slides and bouncy play houses can be very dangerous the Northwest Indiana personal injury law firm of Schlyer & Associates is warning.

Recently, an inflatable slide blew over and over at a youth soccer tournament  causing youngsters to suffer bumps and bruises but critically injuring a mother who had an inflatable crash-land on top of her.

At least 10 inflatables around the country have been toppled by winds or collapsed under too much weight in the last two months, injuring more than 40 people.

Most companies that rent inflatables will drop them off at a party with little instruction to the renter.  Good practice is to have the company provide an operator of the inflatable.  Also, you need to ensure they are properly anchored down and that the number and size of kids are appropriate.

Regulating amusement rides is left up to each state. While most have laws and inspectors overseeing mechanical rides at amusement parks and fairs, only a handful give inflatables the same scrutiny.

Most states do have have the funding or the man power  to monitor and inspect the thousands of bounce houses and inflatable slides in operation.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that operators should anchor inflatables to the manufacturer's requirements and that bigger rides such as slides should have a least two people operating them. It also says weight limits should be watched closely.

The Lake and Porter County, Indiana law firm, Schlyer & Associates warns Seltzer's Beef Labanon Bologna is recalled.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service recall notice, 23,000 pounds of Lebanon bologna products that may be contaminated with a type of E. coli.

The type of E. coli involved is known as O157:H7.  According to the Department of Agriculture, it is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.

The bologna subject to the recall were produced in December 2010 and were sent to distribution centers in Calif., Colo., Md., N.Y. and Pa. for further distribution to retail stores.

The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service states consumers with questions regarding the recall should contact the company at 1-800-282-6336.
